Why You Don’t Need Coordinating Platform Bed Furniture

Depending on the style of platform bed you have chosen, finding coordinating platform bed furniture can be difficult. So where do you start? Start with forgetting about matching platform bed furniture

What do you want your room to look like?

If you have chosen a platform bed then the chances are that you are looking for a chic stylish room which will impress others as well as being comfortable.

What is the focal point of your room?

The answer to this has got to be ‘the bed’. For this reason you don’t want to overpower the room with coordinating platform bed furniture. Whatever furniture you choose to put in the room with your bed, it must not distract, clutter or overpower.

So if you are not going to have coordinating platform bed furniture, what sort of furniture is best? Firstly you need to look at the space you have. If you are decorating a guest room then the storage can be fairly minimal, a wardrobe with internal shelves or drawers will be more than adequate for their clothing, but they may want somewhere to put their toiletries and suitcase. A sturdy trunk is a great support for a suitcase and can be picked up at antique fairs.

For their toiletries it is a good idea to have a small table. Since the room is going to be quite stylised a vintage look table will probably work well. With these three free standing items, bed, trunk and table, you may find that the wardrobe will be best fitted so that it is less dominant.

If you are decorating a room for your self for then you will have different requirements. These do not include matching platform bed furniture. You will need more furniture in your room than in a guest room, unless of course you are lucky enough to have a dressing room. For most of us we will need a chest of drawers and a wardrobe at the minimum.

If you have chosen a metal platform bed then you should stay clear of plain or vanished wood items as these will not work well with the clean look of the bed. Painted wood can be a good way to compliment a metal platform bed. Whether you close a high gloss black or a mat white finish these will both look great with a metal platform bed.

If you have chosen a wooden platform bed, then the chances are that there is other platform bed furniture designed to accompany it. However, using it will probably be totally overwhelming. A good way to continue a wood theme but to keep the amount of wood visible reduced is to have mirrored doors on your wardrobes. This is creates a stunning and stylish look without distracting from your designer bed.

So if you want a chic looking room you need to avoid the matching platform bed furniture and go with your imagination to get the best possible look.
